Red Cored Chantenay produces crunchy, sweet carrots that are excellent for dicing. Roots grow to be a reddish-orange with an indistinct core. This variety produces shorter and thicker carrots that grow to about 14 cm (5 1/2″) long when mature. A healthy choice, carrots contain more vitamin A than any other vegetable and when raw and provide important dietary fibre.

Instructions: Sow in early spring in well cultivated soil once danger of frost has passed. Uniform moisture is critical. Seedlings should be thinned to approximately 5 cm (2?) apart for optimal root formation. Sowings of carrot seed can be repeated every 2 weeks until mid-summer.

Suggestions: An especially good variety for heavy soil. Uniform soil moisture is essential in producing crisp, sweet carrots.
