Nursery Worker
- Maintenance: Potting/repotting, pruning, and monitoring for pests or diseases.
- Irrigation Management: Operating and regulating automated or manual watering systems.
- Order Fulfillment: dealing with clients to help find trees and shrubs, Labeling, and packing/loading plants for shipping to retail locations or wholesale.
- Expertise: Often requires specific knowledge of plant biology and species identification and we can train.
Yard Worker
In a horticultural context, yard workers (often classified as landscaping or grounds labourers) are primarily responsible for the physical maintenance and aesthetic upkeep of outdoor spaces.
- Grounds Maintenance: Mowing lawns, weeding beds
- General Yard Help: helping clients with bags of gravel, soil or mulch. Assisting clients with pricing questions and loading of vehicles and working at the till to put client orders through the till.
- Equipment Operation: Using heavy machinery like tractors, forklifts, or mowers to transport materials across the facility.
- Hardscaping Support: Assisting in the sale of goods used for construction of fences, walkways, or retaining walls.
- Sanitation: Keeping storage yards, parking areas, and customer walkways clean and organized.
Shared Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Providing advice on plant care and helping customers select suitable products.
- Physical Labor: Both roles require significant stamina, including lifting heavy bags of soil, standing for long periods, and working in extreme weather conditions.
